Porsche GT3 ‘faster than GT-R’
The new Porsche GT3 has lapped the Nurburgring in 7m 40sec – 14sec faster than Porsche says Nissan’s GT-R can lap the track in stock trim.
Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s Project Manager High Performance Cars, told Motor Trend that the company’s test driver Walter Rohrl set the 7m 40sec time during an open test session, and could have been two seconds faster if there had been no traffic on the track.

Preuninger added that Rohrl managed a 7m 45sec lap time under the same conditions with a borrowed Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
However, it is Preuninger’s comments about the Nissan GT-R that are most controversial. He insists a stock GT-R cannot lap the track faster than 7m 54s.
Nissan claimed last year that the GT-R had lapped the ‘Ring in 7m 29.03sec, but Porsche has consistently poured scorn on this.
Earlier this month Nissan returned to the track with a latest spec GT-R and claimed to have lapped the track in 7m 27.56sec.
