Seven BTCC champions: Fabrizio Giovanardi

Italian racer Fabrizio Giovanardi states he needs more testing time before he’ll be truly around the pace from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Vehicle Championship on his go back to the course at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Giovanardi is among the seven champions which will race within the category this season and that he will drive the 2-litre turbocharged Airwaves Racing Ford Focus ST. He’s been running via a development programme using the team but he’s yet to obtain the sweet place with regards to the handling.

“At this time, I want amount of time in the vehicle,” stated 47-year-old Giovanardi, from Sassuolo. “I comprehend the vehicle now following the tests we’ve done, but we want more mileage to obtain to the stage in which the set-up suits me perfectly and that i don’t believe that we will get sufficient time prior to the opening models at Brands Hatch. We’ll work hard to achieve this, however it won’t happen immediately – and when situations are not 100 percent this year, it will be difficult to become right in front from the pack.”

Giovanardi would be a back-to-back champion in 2007 and 2008 inside a Vauxhall Vectra but left the series in ’09 once the manufacturer drawn from the competition. He’s eager to return to the experience.

“I want the battle – not too much, because I wish to maintain front,” he jokes. “I have skipped the racing within the United kingdom since it is so difficult to win, for it to be a difficult championship without a doubt and when you consider the gaps between your motorists, it’s not exceptional and we have to push hard just to stay in this mixture. Once the gaps are extremely small , everybody is battling for each inch, then which means many things can happen through the field.

“I love racing using the guys which i know well and that i start many individuals – but I wish to be before them. That’s the only reason I’m here.”
